A woman scientist who changed the world

Nowadays you can see many women in charge of institutions and big scientific groups. Women-inventors, women engineers and women-pioneers have been making their contribution in the sphere of science for many years.

Marie Curie, a French scientist from Poland, was the first famous woman-scientist. She was the first woman awarded the Nobel Prize, and she was also the first woman who received two Nobel Prizes.

Having discovered the principles of radioactivity, Marie Curie, together with her husband, changed the world of science in the 19th century. They studied different radioactive elements and introduced the word “radioactivity”. They were the first to discover radioactive elements such as radium and polonium.

A recent film “Radioactive” tells us a story of life and scientific discoveries of the first woman awarded the Nobel Prize.
