Long before smartphones and apps, the foundations of programming were already being laid. The world’s first programmer was Ada Lovelace, the daughter of famous poet Lord Byron. Fascinated by mathematics, she worked with inventor Charles Babbage, the creator of an early calculating machine.
While others saw a machine that could calculate, Ada saw something more. She wrote detailed instructions – what we’d now call programs – showing how the machine could perform complex operations. Because of this, Babbage’s invention is considered the first computer and Ada Lovelace became a true pioneer of the digital age.
