Did you know that the first mobile phone was invented in the USSR in 1957 by Leonid Kupriyanovich?
The original model weighed roughly 3 kg but Kupriyanovich continued to refine his invention, ultimately resulting in a much lighter phone weighing only 70 grams by 1961. Although Kupriyanovich obtained a patent for his invention in 1957, it had limited functionality as only a few phones could be connected to a single base station.
Nonetheless, Kupriyanovich’s groundbreaking invention paved the way for the development of the mobile phone technology we use today.
