Petroleum engineers design equipment extracting natural resources such as petroleum or natural gas from the earth. Also, their job involves locating reservoirs of oil and natural gas and then finding ways to extract them. They spend a lot of time gathering and analyzing data connected with extracting these resources in the safest and the most economical way. They usually work in offices or research laboratories. However, they can also spend time at drilling sites in order to monitor operations.

To become a petroleum engineer, you are required to go to university and get a bachelor’s degree in petroleum engineering. However, having a bachelor’s degree in chemical or mechanical engineering might also be suitable for getting a position in this field.
