Soft skills

Soft skills are a set of skills and qualities of a person not related to a specific profession but giving him a significant advantage at work.

We are used to the fact that when applying for a job, we are required to have professional skills – experience and knowledge in a certain area or hard skills. For example, an accountant needs knowledge of the basics of accounting and experience in accounting programs, and a programmer needs knowledge of programming languages.

However, in order to qualify for high positions, hard skills alone are not enough. You also need to have a wide range of soft skills, namely:

  • Communication skills
  • Critical thinking
  • Emotional intelligence
  • Being organised
  • Fast information processing skills
  • Creative thinking
  • Leadership skills

Nowadays, soft skills determine a person’s success in the long run. Technologies are developing so rapidly that the knowledge gained at school and university quickly loses its relevance. You need to constantly be in good shape to remain a good specialist in your field and move up the career ladder.
